It's been a mix bag for Yash Raj this year with a blooper like Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, an average grosser Ta Ra Rum Pum and a hit with Chak De! India. And they must probably be looking at making it better with Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. Sarkar who had earlier directed Parineeta is back with another film which has a woman as the protagonist. It's the transition of a woman from her fun filled days, when she is an innocent happy-go-lucky girl to some one who gets toughened by life. The story is about to a woman Badki (Rani Mukerji) and her family. Badki decides to move to Mumbai to earn a living as her family has been going through some rough patches. They have however tried to keep her younger sister Chutki (Konkona Sen) away from all pressures and complete her education. In Mumbai, Badki morphs into Natasha and leads a secret life, marred with compromises. When Chutki decides to come to Mumbai, things take a dramatic turn for both the sisters. Badki tries to hide Natasha from Chutki, but things take a twist. Somewhere down the line, Chutki finds success and love. Badki too finds her love but chooses to walk away from it as she believes that the Natasha in her won't ever be accepted. The climax comes when the two sisters confront each other with the truth about Natasha out in the open. The story as a whole is as predictable as most Yash Raj films have been. But again, it has the grandeur and style that Yash Raj movies are always packaged with. Pradeep Sarkar is expected to weave the story in as much style as he did with Parineeta, and undoubtedly expectations are quite high. The film stars Yash Raj regulars Jaya Bachchan, Anupam Kher and Rani Mukerji. What is interesting is that they are also experimenting with other artistes outside the YRF camp. Though it is not really a Yash Raj trait, it seems to be doing the promos a lot of good. The film also stars Kunal Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma who have never been seen in any other Yash Raj production. Konkona will also be seen in forthcoming Yash Raj flick Aaja Nachle alongside Madhuri Dixit. After Devdas, Aaja Nachle will be her comeback film. Kunal Kapoor plays Vivaan, a youth who falls for Chutki. He is brash, rude and urban. Abhishek Bachchan plays Rohan, a renowned lawyer, who is bowled over by Badki's charm. A multi-starer and huge budget movie, is set to release in early October around time to capture the audience in the Eid season.
